CHY’s aim is to work with communities to help create better jobs, more apprenticeships and relevant training for those most in need. 1.3 million 16-24 year olds spend six months not in employment, education or training whilst only 12% of construction trainees complete their NVQ apprenticeships.
With the current skills shortage. the construction industry needs to work towards retaining a talented workforce by investing in training. apprenticeships and local employment. Our partnership approach with contractors. developers and the local community generates the local jobs. apprenticeships and training needed to sustain the industry and invest in the local financial and social economy.
We have helped generate over 1,000 jobs and apprenticeships and are working towards supporting the Leeds Local Enterprise Partnership’s pledge to create 35,000 jobs by 2036.
By working on construction sites throughout the region we can identify opportunities with contractors and distribute vacancies to partners and people in the local community. On average 25 vacancies are distribute every month with the aim of targeting those furthest from the labour market. Local organisations and the individuals they work with can sign up to our distribution list to receive up to date opportunities.
We are always on hand to work with the local third sector to support targeted groups in the community.

Over 850 weeks of work experience have been generated through our involvement on construction sites throughout the region. Valuable onsite and offsite experience has been arranged for those looking to take their first steps into the industry. We have
organised countless site visits for local colleges, schools and training partners allowing people of all ages to get an insight into the industry.
Working with site managers we can organise placements to suit both the contractor’s and individual’s needs.
By working with schools, colleges and local third sector organisations we can help place individuals onsite as well as organising larger
cohorts through programs such as Step Up Into Construction.
